Overlooking Bethlehem is the Israeli settlement of Har Homa. Perhaps the most controversial building site in the world. This illegal settlement is built on land occupied by Israel in 1967 and is a litmus test for the peace process.

The key issue for the region is where the eventual border will lie of the future Palestinian state. Israel sees Har Homa as a neighbourhood of Jerusalem which will always be part of Israel. The International community see it as an illegal settlement and Palestinians believe it to be part of a clear plan to cut-off Arab east Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank.
